Small-time hustler Sean Penn is driving to Las Vegas to pay off a gambling debt, but a broken radiator hose strands him in a remote Arizona desert town whose off-the-wall residents include grimy auto mechanic Billy Bob Thornton, crooked sheriff Powers Boothe, and wealthy realtor Nick Nolte and seductive wife Jennifer Lopez, each of whom offer Penn money to bump off their spouse.
